ENEA - Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development

ENEA is a public research entity operating in the fields of new technologies, energy, and sustainable economic development. It conducts its research and innovation activities in support of public administration, businesses and citizens through advanced services in various fields.

The Division of Health Protection Technologies (SSPT-TECS) is involved in the health sector with two laboratories: the Health and Environment Laboratory and the Biomedical Technologies Laboratory. Both Laboratories carry out research and innovation activities in the areas of biotechnology, radiation biology, toxicology, experimental (in vitro and in vivo) activities, silicon modeling and bio-medical technology development.

One of the main goals of SSPT-TECS is health-oriented research, with particular interest to the biological aspects of non-ionizing and ionizing radiation. About the effect of non-ionizing radiation, the Division is involved in exploring the biological effects of their interaction with the nervous system, in order to investigate the possible risks deriving from their exposure, as well as to explore their use in new therapeutic approaches. Indeed, the research carried out in the Division is also oriented to study new medical methodologies for diseases of high social interest, such as oncological, cardiac and nervous system diseases, among the most important with the fundamental aim of transferring research to the clinic and the production system.

One of the main goals of SSPT-TECS is health-oriented research, and the biological aspects of ionizing radiation carcinogenesis and the study of the effects of non-ionizing radiation on the immune and nervous system are of particular interest. In particular the effect of non-ionizing radiation is exploited in correlation with neurodegenerative disease, focusing on Parkinson’s Disease. The research carried out in the Division also aims to study new therapeutic approaches in biology and medicine for diseases of high social interest, such as oncological, cardiac, blackhead and neurological disease among the most important with the fundamental aim of transferring research to the clinic and the production system. ENEA possesses all the instrumental features for the successful completion of the project activities.
